What was interesting for me and I think also for others, the question is whether the Zen will work under Linux.
The player is, like most of his colleagues, not recognized as a removable disk, but the included software functioned sufficiently well on Windows.
Since there is no official software available for Linux, I decided to write a little review which is probably for Linux users of interest. All others must be said that I am very satisfied.
The good news is that the Creative Zen can be used to 100% on Linux.
On Linux for new Creative player (such as Zen) the libmtp (libmtp.sf.net) and the program gnomad2 needed. With this the Zen is recognized immediately.
There are other GUIs, but I am very happy with gnomad2.
Gnomad2 provides an FTP-like interface available in music can directly be copied into the folder structure of the Zen in the library and data. Under data here also fall videos, both I have tested with success.
However, it must be dispensed to convert to the way videos to a compatible format, in the Windows software was not very successful. But the Zen plays everything from what is already in the correct format (320x240px, DivX / XviD / ...,
Gnomad2 also has a pleasant interface for editing the ID3 tags. The Windows software here provides only the ability to change individual songs in gnomad2 against a number of songs can be selected and their common elements ID3 (Album, Artist, ...) can be adapted for all.
Moreover Gnomad2 indicates the free space, the battery status (in%) etc and can also create playlists.
Accordingly, the answer to the question whether the Creative Zen is also under Linux gratifying Yes! For me, the players worked under Ubuntu in under 5 minutes and gnomad2 libmtp.
Both programs are available regardless of the distribution by the site available (here should be taken at gnomad to the current version, there was libmtp not supported from the outset).
PS. The only real shortcoming is the 12cm long cable (including plug)!
