I enjoyed this book unlike many readers who were more mixed. Maxime Chattam takes us back and forth between two eras (Cairo early twentieth century and the Mont Saint-Michel currently). Marion, Secretary to the forensic institute of Paris finds himself embroiled in a political scandal which forced him into exile on the Mont Sain Michel. She finds herself in a congregation established on the Mont Saint-Michel. To occupy her days, she went to the library and stumbled upon a newspaper of a British detective (Jeremy Matheson) in 1928 that chronicles a series of crimes committed against children in the streets of Cairo. The plot keeps us in suspense until the end, what connection can there be between the Mont Saint-Michel and Cairo? Chattam very good in my opinion.
