This book is part of the very small corpus of French texts addressing the mechanics of sailing. First, the author presents the very important concepts related to the advancement of a sailboat. For example, it shall state the principle of the bearing of a sail, or shows the maximum speed limit depending on the length of the hull. The schemes are relatively well understood by people who already know how to surf (without understanding why their lead boat). Many equations are issued, for example from fluid mechanics, but it is not indicated where it come from, this can hinder understanding.
Then in the second part, the author outlines the various concepts used in the study or to attempt to approach the theoretical limits of speed, and even exceed them artificially.
It gives me a good book, sobering, and allows very curious to better understand how their boat behaves.
