This is the story of Jersey high school student who lost mother and sister in a tornado. She refuses to believe in their death, his stepfather is so overwhelmed with grief that he can not take care of her. Jersey learns to rely only on herself. It is a strong novel, poignant without being cutesy. It is aimed at teenagers, but it is one of those pleasant book to read for adults too. It is captivating from beginning to end. My 14 year old daughter read it in one sitting in an afternoon and my husband who reads little, had read just before her to look at a long drive and has also enjoyed strong.
