- The first problem that must block the novices people is that it is set to the "subnet 192.168.0.xxx course (in my case) when our local subnet is 192.168.1.xxx,. it is impossible to directly access the interface of the DAP. we must necessarily follow to the letter the doc and connect DIRECTLY with an RJ45 cable to the PC (under Windows) (PC disconnected from the local network) and launch cd delivered, thus accessing a reduced interface to quickly change the subnet eg 192.168.1.250 and wireless channel (set 6) to be very different from the channel (1) of the box, and select the operating mode (Access Point).
- It is a second difficulty of operation and a greater cause of instability than not choose the channels for the box and the DAP compared to surrounding networks. Under LInux, there is a good tool to see all the wireless channels that overlap more or less; LinSSID and under windows had inSSIDer.
- It then accesses a "nice" complete interface to complete the setting, password, wireless channel, MAC address filtering, etc. It is even possible to "accommodate" the DHCP server instead of on the box. Really complete and surprising enough to this little device. Do not forget to record the adjustments as you go.
- THE FINAL, for me it is a very satisfying device in its performance, in its start-up in its price.
Sorry to seem dismissive compared to people who failed, but the difficulties outlined above are not really the fact DAP itself, but the difficulty of the "profession", or failing to follow basic precautions (wiring, method, wireless channel setting, .etc) ...!
To make amends, I said "good practices" and then .... it is not forbidden to do so by helping a family member, he "fell in being young" ...
I take off a star because the site "Dlink.com" indicated no longer exists; and because the windows cd demands! What happens to people who are like me in Linux or Mac ???
Expected deadlines respected.
