2. The big, robust, very complacent crafted carbon part is great in the hand, all parts are accurately and can be moved tired and no play. You realize very quickly that one has acquired a truly valent precision instrument.
The following practice test but then brought 2 disappointments - or to put it better: surprises.
1. The vertical tilt (the small arm), but particularly the horizontal (the connection to the tripod) are very, very strongly attenuated. And so much so that I tried, whether you get a little more play in solving the middle thick Allen screw. Worked not.
With 70-200mm telephoto and Nikon D800 with grip the camera combination, however, is hard enough that you have everything quite under control and also - I think - can move in practice. On a very fast turn things around to follow about a sprightly bird flight, but is not to think. Therefore, the NEST-Gimbal persists even about how you can see it in other models on YouTube, Spinning (competitors (SIRUI, MANFROTTO, BENRO etc.) create here loosely 2 spins around its own axis - my nest not centimeters, the Tripod tilts at most).
I think that you can live with it if you, just as originally planned, a really heavy camera used with telephoto; no camera but shifted my tripod at slow manual horizontal rotation of the main arm, then you have to keep. Dear me would actually be a very smooth-running Gimbal been whose traction can be adjusted with screws - the screws here at the nest are used only for open / close the rotation of the ball joint.
2. "surprise": The ARCA-compatibility is not given, at least not with my equipment - I use tripods and heads to the respective boards of NOVOFLEX. The removable plates of NOVOFLEX not fit into the NEST-coupling. Since I will but very rarely use this Kardankopf, the effort to change the plates is not so much consequence. The included drive makes any event a similarly precise idea of how the NOVOFLEX parts, it has quite incidentally incorporated rubber pads that would very likely prevent rotation of the lens securely. However stopper missing.
These are in my opinion also not necessary, because they would have only one meaning when panning the entire system to portrait mode, which does not occur, since a telephoto is so twisted in his somewhat dissolved lens clamp in the gimbal 90 degrees and the removable disk it in no way affected. The rubber insert is accordingly sufficient.
The 5 star I do not forgive, to me everything is so severely reduced. The lack of ARCA compatibility I do not review but since I'm not sure if the lack of fit is not to look at NOVOFLEX, and their parts are possibly not - as alleged - ARCA-compatible.
Conclusion: This part is valuable and for dedicated photographers who are only occasionally use, thoroughly recommended, because the known me very smooth quality heads cost at least 100 more. The ambitious bird photographer, in which everything has to be mounted in a huge radius very quickly, I would not suggest.
Addendum:
1. With increasing use Eder has the Gimbal "turned Rocks", although it is still subdued, but can move considerably smoother than on first use. So I would now give full 5 stars if ...
2. ... it would not have turned out to be that of ARCA compatibility really can be no question. Not only my NOVOFLEX plates do not fit in the holder rail, but also any of SIRUI. That means for me now actually the constant changing of the lenses mounted on quick release plates, resulting in a quick change to absurdity. Annoys me the way that I, despite the better ease of movement would still like to deduct a point best yet - but who does not ever want to change multiple lenses, is not affected to that extent, and so I will refrain from doing those cravings.
