First, the backup computer:
- On my MacBook Pro, I found it as a standard hard drive to set TimeMachine, backup is done as a local hard disk ... but wireless. Everything happens without worries (I did not save the parallel windows desktop file because you have 40GB of opening windows after each change of the file and therefore it is not bad to be). Height of refinement, we may limit the size of the backup folder to not ever fill the MyCloud.
- On a PC backup automatically done through the software provided by WD, whenever a file is created or modified, it is saved. Only problem, I did not find any option to keep only the latest versions of backed up files.
Secondly movies and photos:
- I already owned a WD hard drive for my movie, I plugged it to the USB port MyCloud and is an integral part of it, automatically.
- SD is compatibel UPNP and DLNA therefore recognizes the box quite like VLC on a PC or UPNP smarphone reader or tablet. everyone can enjoy a movie where he wants. The downside software again, I sai spas if the bbox or HDD but the movie does not appear in the right format (16/9) on the TV, nothing embarrassing in itself. Moreover, subtitles spend carefree.
- Asked transmission speed cable I have 1 minutes to pour a movie on the disc (700 MB) with a network infrastructure that includes a node 100 mbps, so proper speed has not held the top network. The movies are getting read instantly.
Third, remote access:
- Important Reason my purchase, remote access. With a 16GB iPhone, difficult to maintain 10 years of photos. The application WD connected to MyCloud, presents to always be on her photos. Can be accessed from wherever you want, 3G / 4G or wifi. The charging time depends here the upload speed of your box, 5mbps home, a reasonable value.
- Finally I was surprised to read remotely movie from my macbook pro without worries. The software provides as a smarphone allows access to its remote file, then you can read a div without worries, without necessarily having a very powerful connection, and subtitles are also rising with no problem. A real PLUS for this drive.
It does not seem to find a simplified NAS with such value for money in early 2014
