Victorinox Spirit compared with Leatherman Charge TTi

Victorinox pocket knife SwissTool Spirit in leather, 3.0223.L (equipment)

Customer Review

My desire was an everyday tool, with the following functions: 2 blades, pliers, reasonable screwdriver Phillips screwdriver and possibly a pair of scissors. Just as the old Leatherman Wave (approximately 12 years old) with lockable tools.

Unfortunately this combination is virtually impossible to find. The current trend to lug around an additional bit holders do not like it, because this is no longer part of the tools. The next then sold a penknife with Akkuschrauberfunnktion because he brings a pocketknife in the case of the battery-operated screwdriver. But this is just my opinion. Here should and must itself take a picture and decide for purpose jerder. In addition, screws that are sunk deeper into a case (as in electrical / electronic equipment is often the case) can no longer be opened with one bit.

Here is my comparison with Leatherman Charge TTi:
Very nice design. Lid is very sturdy. The often complained of poor quality were limited (knife not cut, one side very stiff) or simply were resolved. Drawback is the bit solution (see the Introduction). In addition, the serrated blade with the catch hook is not as suitable for everyday use for me because this is not so suitable for the slicing of sausage or bread. Otherwise the tool is every-day-always-this fit.
I have kept it, but it only use in the household when I'm too lazy to pick up a "real" tool from the cellar.

The Spirit:
I ordered the version with 2 blades, and dispenses with the scissors.
The tool is easy and affects "petite". The build quality is excellent. Everything is polished and shines. The knives are razor sharp. The tools can easily be folded out with short fingernails. Much lighter than the Swiss Tool! Only the drilling eels disappointed. This is only just being ground compared to the "Swiss knives" and thus acts as a cheap pocketknife. Whether this makes a difference in the function, I can not say, because I very rarely (actually never) use these.
The screwdriver is ideally suited for me and used top. Luster terminals, cable connections, etc. can be easily opened / tightened. The Leahtermanbits are unable to reach! When you realize how solid grab the handles "twist". for example if you want to solve a tight bonded M6 screw. Here the Charge TTi proposes better. Whether this has long-term effects I can not say.
The file is for me a "nice to have". I have not yet used
(For nail care which file the charge is likely to be better suited ;-)).
The wire cutter works very well. Even cable (2.5 mm² silicone cable) with fine Liezen are well clipped. In comparison, the batch thereby jamming only the jaws! However, I suspect that this works well only in new condition. When the tongs again has a few notches sees probably also different. But I let myself be surprised. The cutting of the pliers is unfortunately very short. An aerial cable of satellite system can no longer cut cleanly to it.
The can opener I have not tried this tool. But this is identical with those of the classic Swiss Army knife. With this I have already opened many doses. Of course does not replace a regular opener from the budget, but for camping / outdoor absolutely fit. The bottle opener is also almost identical to those of the Swiss knife and doing what he should. The blades are very sharp even out of the box. Both the serrated blade as well as plain edge. The blades have approximately the length of a classic Swiss "Officer's Knife" and are shorter than in the batch. In direct comparison with a Victorinox locking knife blade looks small and narrow. But do not worry, you can thus still easily cut clean bread.

From the bread cut to the quick times a device screw is all possible. If I had to describe the tool in short, I would assign the Spirit most supplements in the Victorinox knife with locking pliers.
As a comparison, I would Leahterman Surge (also I own) as needle-nose pliers (ie tool) describe with integrated knife.
The Charge TTi in between.

Advantage of the Spirit are the low weight and the "small" size and still (almost) everything there.
The disadvantage I feel for me the missing Einhandbedienug the knife (sometimes fast a letter or a package with no cut put it down does not work), and the lack of scissors.

Advantage of the Charge TTi would the more robust construction, and one-handed operation of the blade and the scissors.
The disadvantage I feel the bit - solution. The bottle opener / can opener is to open capsules also not particularly useful because the capsule is pierced in advance before they can be lifted off. The can opener I have not tried, but could work. Even the watchmaker's screwdriver is somehow out of place in such a robust tool because they allow companies has little feeling.

The Spirit now replaced my old Leatherman Wave. Merely for the scissors I have my Mini - pocketknife as a keychain. For the torn fingernail ranging completely.

Addendum of 07/02/2013

After several months of use to me the following difference between Spirit and Charge TTi is still noticed (is actually seen from the product images): the Spirit, the blade in the lower half of the handle mounted on the right side (tool with open blade in hand with the cutting edge down pointing), the Charge TTi the blade in the lower half of the handle mounted on the left side. The left-mounted blade has the advantage that for example when scraping a surface (flat blade in position for surface) with left-mounted blade can work from your own body away while you are working with right-mounted blade for own body out of the right-handed.
