The Piano Guys (Audio CD)

Customer Review

These guys make incomparable music! Although this is almost just to cover by famous pieces and a few classical pieces, but it all depends on the "how":

Jon Schmidt plays on his piano and Steven Sharp Nelson plays cellos. Majority. In the videos you can see at least seven different models, a few acoustic, but also very modern and / or bizarre-looking electric, he weaves together with a loop generator to fantastic percussion and soundscapes. The edits are engaging, and always so that the original pieces are recognizable.

What ThePianoGuys but has made so famous on YouTube, their grandiose Full-HD Music Videos: time in a forest, sometimes at sea, but also on rocky cliffs at the Grand Canyon, before fantastic waterfalls, in industrial ruins or on a moving boxcar. The camera is always moving, flowing music, often adapted with quick cuts through blinded to the rhythm. Notable aerial circle while the two musicians and contribute a great deal to ease the overall impression. I recommend wholeheartedly to edition with CD and DVD!

Highlights on CD and DVD

Peponi (Paradise): At a high spire on typical American landscape play a TPG Coldplay cover to the Alex Boye guest sings an African text. Purely acoustic CD already impressive, but even more than video. Unfortunately, the text is very strong repetitive, so that it is clear "wears" a few times ...

Beethoven's 5 Secrets: Nelson playing with a big classical orchestra "Secrets" by One Republic - with a gaiety and lightness that captivates. A very fantastic editing!

Over the Rainbow / Simple Gifts: on the beach and rugged cliffs playing Schmidt and Nelson their version of this song and immediately generate wanderlust. It everything is just right at this Arrangement

Cello Wars: A medley of the most popular Star Wars pieces with character comedy in which a Jedi Nelson plays against a Sith Nelson cello, the arches as lightsabers swinging in front of a Death Star construction site. Only works half as well without the video!

The Cello Song: Bach Cello Suite. Only that Nelson plays along a total of eight times. Apart from the real issue, he enriched the piece to percussion with the cello, and other harmonies. Worth hearing as well worth seeing.

What Makes You Beautiful: My personal favorite, because here can also else in the background or behind the camera werkelnden Piano Guys show what they can! Five men playing on a wing. At the same time! No, not just multiple-handed, but plucking at the strings, tapping, drumming on the body ... with flying changes and a piano completely ungewohnteTöne producing. The piece is just much too quickly.

Without You: Jon and Steven play varied and the cello emerges again as enormously vielsa / eitiges instrument. The video presents the piece also represents a kind of thank you to the YouTube fan base.

Overall a very successful production. Unfortunately, my only criticisms refer to the DVD:
- The blend is extremely loud, I have to turn down at least 12 dB amplifier over other music DVDs!
- The aspect ratio is indeed anamorphic 16: 9, but the DVD tells the TV a 4: 3 aspect ratio, so you have to adjust it manually every time.
- Some videos will be hidden too early, probably because the original YouTube video already advertise TPG will appear at this point.

But that's not enough for me for a deduction of points!
