Jack Palmer: The Corsican Investigation (Album)

Customer Review

The wanderings of the sympathetic detective, somewhat overtaken by events, provide excellent material to review the less savory aspects (and most conspicuous) of Corsican mentality. And Pétillon in this album, spares no narrative verve to deride through so friendly and hospitable people of the Isle of Beauty. Due respect to fans of tourist clichés.
Cover and speaking very drawing illustrating the reverse side as the negative of a postcard, agree well with the story.
Although a little out of his mind, Jack Palmer, main character, has to be seen in its true role. Here, far from the main target of the corrosive humor Pétillon rather serves the investigator probe to explore. Through his travels, he plunges the reader's eye in the Corsican universe. And that's a good bit of fun that we brought back from his explorations.
True to the traditions (we found echoes in the well-known Asterix album), Corsican display their atavistic pride, only with difficulty conceal their hostility to the mainland we are, blow up French homes ... without their chauvinism does not mitigate their internal quarrels.
The spirit of vendetta, which is part of the customs of a society marked by the key figure in the family clan, appears here in full, of course with the machismo that underlies it. And if a little forced Pétillon has the trait, the fact remains that his caricature has many likelihood.
However, contrary to the impression to fear the apparent virulence of Corsican nationalism, one never sees pointing the prospect of a general uprising or a civil war. The quarrels here are settled with fists on the head or isolated bombs must create good of hassles with insurance companies.
Goscinny and Uderzo As the show at the end of their album (Asterix in Corsica), family animosities and separatist end, here again, fishtail. With the representative of law enforcement as a mediator, the issue is finally settled around a bottle that you drink between good friends, until next time.
One might conclude, as the proverb says, that while France ends with songs.
