What makes this book so for me, is that you are every meter with AWOL on the way. He leads the reader sent through the ups and downs of such a long hike, he shares his joys and sorrows with us and not tried placed to convey something about the history or the culture surrounding the Trail.
Emotions come across very well and also the experiences with other people make the book worth reading. The subdivision is selected goes and if you already know a little about the AT, then one looks forward with Miller when he has reached the next landmark "or the nearest large city.
Just because David Miller mainly writes about the challenges, you can follow the book very well. What must hang food bags so that no bear happen? How many mice are still bearable in a Shelter? What if you actually can not, but want to give up by no means? AWOL trying to answer all the questions without them beautiful and yet he manages to keep on reading the desire still awake after this experience.
For a travel experience book the language is very sophisticated and I must admit that I did not understand a few phrases or words. There are certainly easier to read English books, but for all who reasonably fluently speak this language, the understanding should be no problem.
