Having read a review of "Winter Journey" I bought this curious little book and I discovered the universe of Anne Brouillard. I found her in a small show, presented by Thierry Bellefroid honoring literary awards of the Federation Wallonia-Brussels. It seemed to me she was so beautiful that I ordered his books (well, those who are still edited because there are many. Forty if my sources are correct.) Of course, I started with the first album, "Three cats", since my passion for felines. These are black and white, like one of mine. Sitting on a branch, they watch carefully something happens below their perch. Turning the page, we find the three goldfish. Where are the cats? We do not know. We discern only the sky and the water mirror symmetry. The industry seems suspended in the air without belonging to a tree. One Meows takes shelter. He dives. Soon followed by his two fellows. One no longer sees their two black cocks, parallel. And finally, here are the cats with water and fish on the branch. No one is happy! But we can start the story. For there is no text. Each board covers two pages as a large table that we want to frame. The colors are bright, mainly blue, since the decor consists only of the sky and the river (pond? Sea?). But there are white clouds and scum, and of course, black for cats, whose eyes are different: yellows, greens and blues. Finally, the red fish. Some keys are yellow blaze splashing. What is the technique? I read Anne Brouillard was a follower of the tempera, but here there are lots of pencil trais, very dynamic. This is undoubtedly an album for children, but I have found wonderful and I laminated repeatedly without getting bored.
