Well meant is not necessarily well done or: from 0 to 5 points, anything is possible

Rarely has there been in my parents' house so long discussion about such a relatively simple product. Two or three night lights should forth, so that the way is illuminated to the toilet. The light switch for the regular lighting are unfavorable, if you come from the bedroom.

The decision was made in the first Test at the Osram Nightlux. For later, I had possibly even the GEV 000360 provided. The reviews for both products could not recognize me, which would be suitable for our purposes. So I started with the sight designmäßig better.

Design should also be the starting point: one can certainly argue about, but the external processing of Nighlux can once nothing to be desired. The - white in our case - plastic housing looks high and shines almost nacreous. The plastic is quite firm and arouses no associations with a cheap product. 5 of 5 points would be reached here.

Positive also that 3 AAA batteries are in place for immediate start already. It is only to open the battery compartment and put the slide switch to the desired position (10 s / 60 s / On). "On" disables the twilight sensor and the motion sensor, the Nightlux then burns actually permanently. How long will the batteries while, I can not say. As spotlighting certain exhibits in temporary exhibitions I can imagine an aptitude of "On". But otherwise?

However tragic is already securing the Nightlux: a thin sheet discs to be attached with adhesive pad on the wall, or alternatively with a small cog, which is visible in the battery compartment and can be unscrewed there when you need it. Now the Nightlux to be placed on the thin sheet slices and there by 6 small magnets, which are inserted in the battery compartment cover, be liable. For this, however, the sheet metal disks is much too thin. The Nightlux slip without comment from the plate slice when mounted on a vertical wall and falls down. Better it is probably, if you use the screw for mounting the plate Scheibchens because the screw head is then seated in a recess in the back of Nightlux and prevents slipping. Wobbly remains all but nevertheless and a mounting without opening the ground is not possible.

Head hand over the magnet just so for a fairly "anxiety-free" maintenance of Nightlux to a thick steel beams - but certainly does not feel even that. Upside down with the sheet metal discs liable nothing useful.

An alternative mounting option - for example, through slots with side mounted larger opening for hooking on screw heads - missing the Nightlux unfortunately. That would catch up strongly in a product revision, so that a secure attachment is possible. For now made outdoor use close to the front door - to the night to find the keyhole - I have built a support of aluminum sheet, in which the Nightlux from top head hanging in a rectangular recess sitting (65 × 80 mm). So everything is safe.

Mounting: In my view, more than 1 out of 5 points, since the objective of a secure budget is out-of-the-box usually missed.

Switching behavior: in the 10- or 60-second positions the Nightlux should switch only at dusk and at night, but during the day remain disabled. This works on the doorstep actually very good, the light is only activated in advanced twilight. But in the hallway, it is also during the day to dark, the Nightlux always turns on when it registers movement. The sensitivity can not be adjusted, so the Nightlux disqualified for use in the hall.

Even oblique it is in artificially lit rooms - so the evening / night everywhere. In the bedroom the Nightlux does not turn on when the regular lights burning. In the bathroom it does but nonsensically, and indeed in much brighter lighting. Suspect I could confirm meanwhile: the twilight sensor does not detect the light spectrum of Nightlux of energy saving lamps. An illuminated with energy-saving lamp room is considered "dark" from Nightlux and Nighlux always turns on during movement. In order for the Nightlux had disqualified for use in the bathroom. This is bitter because the bathroom must be crossed on the way to the toilet.

As the Nightlux responds to LED lamps, I could not test. Only with incandescent lighting, I can say: if bright enough, then Nightlux from.

Sensor: detects at least for us reliable - sometimes almost "too reliable" - movement in the detection area and turns safely after a short delay. Once turned on, the light will burn until no more motion is detected. Pulse end switching behavior I could not find.

Light output: yes, I consider adequate for a night light. The path through a 4-meter room is fully illuminated sufficiently bright. That's all I would have expected in any case. Light color cool blue is white.

Conclusion: mechanically solid and processed optical quality, mounting options largely unusable. Light output ok reliably for about 3-5 meters range, and motion sensitive. Twilight sensor ignores energy-saving lamps and switches for in-house applications in bad lit rooms too early. An adjustment of the switching threshold would also be desirable as a sensor which responds to the spectral distribution of common energy-saving lamps. Just as a manufacturer of Osram bulbs could note that.

Thus, at the end remains a wide margin of appreciation. For some cases, perhaps most notably in protected outdoor installation, I would give it 5 points. Actually zero points remain for some in-house applications, as for the beautiful appearance you normally creates no lamp.

An indication yet that belongs to all products in my opinion, with magnets, but is often forgotten: caution near magnetic media. Nightlux and debit card could just as fatal end like Nightlux and laptop or external hard drive.
