Here is the fifth volume of "The City Dark" or "Mortal Instruments". A transition tome on an adventure that consists of a new trilogy. We find all the characters because this trilogy is less centered on Clary, the lighthouse torque Calry / Jace, but varies from one character to another. Each chapter presents short passages alternating points of view. We follow so close all the side characters from the first series. They now constitute true heroes, the main characters in their own right this new plot.
I especially like this, we do not have time to get bored, tired of us because we alternate character constantly leaving us with a slight suspense. All are so different and touching that one attaches to them cheerfully, as well as we could fall in love with Jace and Clary.
We find the plot exactly where volume 4 left us when the merry band of friends, Shadow hunters, werewolves, mage and vampire had killed the demon Lilith. But it was still cost them anything, the mysterious flight of Sébastien and the no less mysterious disappearance of Jace.
This volume consists of 3 parts, the first devoted to despair Clary facing the loss of her love, but also the despair of Isabelle and Alec who suffer from the loss of their brother when their family has already wept. All the help of their friends they set in 4 to locate or find answers ...
The second part allows us to follow the amorous torments of each, the approximation of Maia and Jordan, the two young wolves, Isabelle and Simon. The troubles of Alec and Magnus, and Jace and Clary reunion. Except Clary, courting all dangers, listening only to his heart, will find a Jace, although one suspects, quite different.
Finally the third part, as in other volumes is an explosive end when all join to conduct a desperate battle.
Admittedly, the second part was a bit long, slower. The last one bit "already seen", with the epilogue that made me think that it was always the same pattern. I actually found that it was turning around in circles so that the author makes us wait until his final book. It spices up constantly romantic scenes where each character wants another but refrains for whatever reason. It puts obstacles on the road to each, so we have only one desire, that everyone finally finds solutions to fully experience his love, and jump on the volume 6!
Cassandra Clare Short torments us, we walk, we did languish behind and a little pen.
Yet it was read again and again nice and captivating. Delightfully romantic. Maybe not my favorite tome or my favorite, but the constant certainty that this is an excellent, if not inescapable young-adult series!
