The amount in the feeder corresponds to about 3 tablespoons, that's enough for us 3 weeks. I recommend to feed pellets with the machine: the reproducibility of the ejected amount is suboptimal in flake food. The setting is a bit tricky - a few days before the trip to feed the machine, to verify the setting, is certainly good. Our batteries have kept the 3 weeks. We are very satisfied.
