I am an avid reader of Asterix for over 40 years, I discovered with the first two albums available for my Christmas 1967 "Asterix and Cleopatra Asterix and the Goths &" ... here I am completely baffled and skeptical before this so-called "Birthday of Asterix & Obelix"! This is the first Asterix I read five times over five days, with a real desire to stop along the way, and a desire to reach the end more quickly, to be rid of!
In short, a pure book COMMERCIAL, there is almost nothing to draw well: the stories do not hold, there is a kind of frame in the middle of this text amalgam of bubbles and descriptive (something related fashion and family, like, women and children of Asterix & Obelix) does not hold, it is not even short stories like the excellent "Back Gallic" since n 'there is no beginning and no end! The worst are the five boards that meet unique for each of them a whole page; without any interest ... (Genre: I do not know what to write as text, so I filled with anything!)
It is frankly pathetic and sad!
The only small positive of that "thirty-fourth album," is that he has not lost an ounce of drawing quality, despite the advanced age of Albert Uderzo; Fortunately for that matter!
Frankly, it would have been better to abstain than to leave such "cagade"! I have not even laughed, while some albums like "Asterix and the Normans" or even "The Big Fight" still make me burst out laughing today!
I do not understand that an author like him could fall in the "marketing" panel! He did not need money, with millions of albums he sells in the world ... I hope the series will not end on this great flop of comics, and he will back in two or three years the level of his work, to finish with fine albums as he knows so well, I think in particular of (Franquin) or even (Hergé) who have passed away, leaving behind real works of comics!
For those who want to indulge themselves by filling their collection, buy it!
For others, just make sure you read it and you will make a good economy, this album not essential!
