At first glance, the device could fill a gap in the market: There are virtually no hard drives that can be connected as a storage medium or PVR via USB to a satellite or cable receiver and the NAS via network jack simultaneously. This is for those (like me) who want to access their recordings made on Satreceiver from abroad via the Internet (FTP), and in which the receiver does not provide such functionality by itself, a problem that could solve this device actually. Unfortunately, the control software located on the unit on delivery is immature and makes sensible use of the NAS function at the same time inserted and connected to the satellite receiver USB cable in practice impossible. Because the unit automatically under the menu item "NAS" to place FTP access every time arbitrarily again as soon as power is applied to the USB port. So you can not program a timer recording and then later access via the Internet it without having previously reactivated this function manually (ie via remote control). Remedy is fortunately an excellent tinkered by private enthusiasts an alternative software called 'Moser Vices', which can easily be found in connection with the heading "O! Play" via Google, costs nothing, and can be loaded via Telnet straightforward on the box , Lo and behold, with this work, the permanent activation of the FTP access problems (the box is therefore without any inputs on the device after each PVR recording again via FTP accessible as soon as the USB port no voltage is present). Great thing, and for me the best solution to be able to access my recordings via the Internet from anywhere. One star deduction therefore not for the hardware, but for the irreproducible bugs in the original software from Asus.
