I am among those, shame on my head, who have not played the first part. Nevertheless, there were no problems in the interesting story to start. However, it requires some preparation if you want to enjoy this game properly. Firstly, you should play it with headphones. Just so the acoustics to its best advantage. It should also be played in the dark possible. The entire game is, designed very dark except for a few points. These two effects the quality of the game is again increased.
On the solution should be avoided if possible. Most puzzles are very easy for experienced players, but also for beginners to create good. Just wander through the temporary things get really exciting. If you play for the solution, then you meet hardly even an infected person, and that's a real shame ...
The controller determines, for some, a point of criticism, I found almost genial. It is based on it, to reveal everything as realistic as possible. For example, many doors have to slide the mouse to open, wheels must be automatically rotated and boxes all have different weights, so can not always lift. In the beginning it might need a short settling, but it works.
The puzzles are very varied and the fact that you constantly have the feeling that behind the nights corner could be lurking something, also will not be bored.

Unfortunately, there are also a few points of criticism. The previously mentioned short playing time is one of them. I've played a lot and did not even needed here five hours.
Thus, to get straight to the second point of criticism. The puzzles are indeed varied but for experienced players easily solved. In principle, I could just play through it.
I can not remember any place where it really hooked times. The strength at Penumbra is rather the fact of having overlooked something, and then again to return to a room. That does not diminish the tension, because the infected people may lurk everywhere. Nevertheless, it is a pity that there are few puzzles that you really have to combine times and think.

Penumbra ran flawlessly on my PC. There were no crashes, even errors I noticed in the game. The graphics are certainly not the latest, but the fall did not in this game significant.
Penumbra is highly recommended to anyone who would like to thrill and an exciting history.
