Camera: EOS 7d (1.6 Crop)
Background:
I bought the lens mainly for portraits, but did not want pure portrait lens because I wanted to rather then get a rounder for this money (and you want to indeed improve for the future;)). I had so far in this focal length range only, the kit lens, the "plastic lens" 50mm f / 1.8 and the Tamron SP 17-50mm F / 2.8. None of the three was able to satisfy in terms of sharpness. It may be that I am very picky there, but me it has always annoyed that are out of focus the images at 100% view, although perhaps only I can see. At the 7D to correct the autofocus per lens, but also brought in the aforementioned lenses no real improvement.
For lens:
I am satisfied with this lens Top! Had it up to now in three shootings in use. It's really knackscharf, even at 100% view. Autofocus is fast, quiet and accurate. Whether it almost 2000, - is value? If I had to estimate a price, I would 1200 - to 1400, - typing, mainly because it has no image stabilization. But still it is the best lens I had previously and it brought my pictures on a completely different level.
When I started with photography I asked myself the question whether I soon should buy a L lens equal to or at least gradually umstelle on better lenses. I opted for the latter more and have to say I would have saved me a lot of money if I had bought the same one L lens. So I have lenses with loss resell my "old".
