Live from KCRW (Audio CD)

Customer Review

Nick Cave released live albums not just in clock. That would be presumptuous, he has more than 20 years ago with "Live Seeds" a documentary irrepressible stage energy created with unmatched versions of his songs.

In 2013, he must and must sound different, Nick Cave has changed but his songwriting and expanded. The cover shows him in the dim light of an up storage facilities amidst innumerable instruments Suitcase, suggesting rather expect a certain rawness. False expected. The album enters the silent "Higgs Boson Blues", hardly a powerful concert opener. But it remains. However well-intentioned critics have stressed he suffers his songs more than he sings. Only his energy never discharges loud. "The Mercy Seat" has thus lost all its charm, I think.
Except for "Jack The Ripper" it remains silent and set. Positive, I notice the classic "Stranger Than Kindness", which would remarkably well fitted to the Last studio album "Push The Sky Away". Well and of course the magnificent Push The Sky Away themselves. Even if both numbers experienced little variation. They sound like they always sounded. Otherwise I can but little abgewinnen the album.

Why is this album is actually released? The song selection and sequence allows little concert drama. Near the end of "Far From Me" asks Nick Cave characteristically "What Else?" He gives himself dispassionately. Who wants to understand Live From KCRW as a snapshot of its creativity, can certainly live with that. I feel the disc as dull and without concept with few highlights. I was allowed to see him differently on stage already.
