Cooperation between these two giants Ellington, true entrepreneur who knew everything (compose, interpret the piano, select musicians, lead and lead with enthusiasm and incredible natural authority a small or large training) and Coltrane, artist flayed alive and brilliant saxophonist, has produced a true synergy. With them two plus two equals five or six, not just four. Framed, reassured perhaps by reassuring the direction of Ellington, Coltrane did not give her here sometimes depressed mood and shows suave and relaxed as seldom virtuoso as always. Excellent cover of this 1962 recording by the equally excellent collection verve / impulse. One complaint: the included text is printed in small print if a microscope would be helpful to decrypt it.
