The router is located here in the office on the first floor of a detached house, the TV, the Raspberry Pi will supply the content, however, on the ground floor, via a straight line and through a thick ceiling through in about 5 meters distance from it!
At first I had fundamental concerns about whether the wireless connection would probably ever be enough for even the most demanding HD content with high video bit rate and including DTS soundtrack, but this has proved to my own surprise as unfounded. The small adapter makes this an amazingly good job and it also comes with such material to any image or sound interruptions. Even limiting the transmission power on the router (Fritz box) on only 6% is for the most part still enough! (Sometimes it worked so tadelos, at other times it was then but to disturbances, with the increase in transmission power to 12% in these cases in turn is then quite sufficient)
There were a few problems initially in setting up under Raspbmc as these (at least that was the case needed me) had to be made after installation by hand. After and since this was bewerktstellt, there has never been but back problems and the adapter is detected every time the RPI always readily and mounted correctly!
It should also be pointed out as a critical remark that Wi-Fi, just like any other wireless network in terms of which outgoing radiation with respect to the health burden is certainly not to be underestimated / is safe and wherever possible better avoided and instead resorted to the standard wired Ethernet should be. (In new buildings, it is anyway not a problem the same Ethernet cable to move through the walls) But of course that is not in my vote with incorporated. Just to have mentioned it!
The adapter performs otherwise a very good job and works the same way (without interference and without problems) as one hopes it is of such a device and is to no matter how small or RenderMan flat that he intelligent masses does not block the adjacent second USB port on the RPI , Therefore, he has - even in the face of the fair price - the full number of points, as well as a full purchase recommendation meinerseit honestly earned!
PS: By the way, with me goes a 1000 mA power supply for RPI in the second revision, a large 10GB SD Card, moderate overclocking of the RPI, a connected USB stick and the Edimax adapter itself with regard to the supply of power apparently completely out. Secure it would be (the PSU was with me in a complete package / offer already included) in case of doubt, however, well - how everywhere always recommend getting there - on a recourse with 1200 mA or more, depending on what you plan to de RPI so ( or what you want to hang there all!) The RPI including Edimax EW-7811Un runs anyway with 1000 mA at me properly!
