Compared to the Nikon Dome diffuser (SW-13H), which is supplied with the Nikon SB-900 flash, cuts this BIG flash coating underperformed. He produced in my test try something harder shadow than the Nikon Diffusion Dome, although the differences are not very large.
In addition, it's a little fiddly job to pluck the "shower cap" uniformly round and bulging - this is critical for a good illumination - because it is only two layers of fabric that can not be stabilized.
Furthermore, the material is relatively thick, so that it absorbs a lot of flash. The loss of light power was with me about two stops, with the Nikon Diffusion Dome is about only one aperture.
I would have expected that this coating would be better due to the size as the Nikon Diffusion Dome. But unfortunately this is not the case. Presumably, it is mainly because that this diffuser in use hardly so perfectly round and smooth as a pillow (as shown on the product photo) can pluck deal. Moreover sewn structures or similar would have been helpful to diffuse the light better. For the internal diffuser (interior fabric) is here rather disturbing because it unnecessarily absorbs a lot of light.
Pro:
+ Very small and lightweight, fits in everywhere
+ Softer light than without a diffusor
+ Relatively cheap
Cons:
- Low light output (light loss of about 2 EV)
- Produces harder shadow than the Nikon Diffusion Dome (SW-13H)
- "Shower caps optics"
My Conclusion:
Who for his flash diffuser has been no (z. B. the often supplied by the manufacturer plastic cap) and does not interfere in the "shower caps optics", which will probably be satisfied with this diffuser. However, you really should not expect miracles, because so compelling this is ultimately not - especially in view of the many positive recessions.
