The Annals Discworld, Book 23: Carpe Jugulum (Paperback)

Customer Review

No introduction Terry Pratchett humor and so personal ...
Carpe Jugulum is, with all his abundant production, my favorite novel. I love its witches, smoldering eyes of the intractable Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, the old "unworthy lady" formidable stepmother and washed-cheerful, the very "new-age" Magrat Garlick ...
Carpe Jugulum (literally "jumps at the throat" ...) is a Gothic festival and comedy through flashes of genius, vampires (not repented, those ...) very "couture" Bandits small way, a suspect in the night castle which lost travelers should have yet common sense to turn away as quickly, Death, philosopher as it should.
Writing proceeds in small steps, as usual, the friend Terry preferring fine evocation of linear narrative. The bewildered reader to be patient: if the son seem scattered and disjointed, that inveterate prankster weaves its skein inexorably.
Funny, wild, absurd, winks and parodies jostle through the pages, and it's never heavy. I find even a haunting poetry when Grandma is over the wild forests by "borrowing" the body of a night owl ...
To bring high on the desert island!
