The extremely likeable frontman of No Use For A Name manages again to press 12 highly melodic songs on a CD that can be lyrically and instrumentally little to be desired. Although this has nothing to do with punk rock, but the songs are so so quickly into his ear, find that punk rocker with a fancy to acoustic music like with a penchant for melancholy in it.
Something strange I find only the album title "Sad Bear". Clear are a few slow, quiet numbers can be found on the album ("Dark Corner", "Therapy", "Flying South"), but also cheerful, positive songs - above all my personal highlight of the CD "Homecoming".
For a song I had to swallow shortly: "Discomfort Inn" is the first time so so sweet and corny that I really have thought it would have a false song sneaked on the album. Tony sings the song with so clear head voice, I could not at first believe that he sings the song itself. But after a few repetitions also arises out of here, that it is a song with catchy guarantee, and in conjunction with the great lyrics turned out that as a true pearl. But as I said, at first somewhat uncharacteristic of Tony!
However, it is hereby him keep good that he has once again done an excellent job with this album, I certainly hope to many more solo CDs of him, even though I was still awaiting an equally good record of No Use For A Name. But good things come to those who wait.
I can in any case recommend fans of pop, rock, singer / songwriter stuff, and occasional punk rockers this CD. I recommend the latter, however, before buying a listen time. I can also recommend as a gift, my mother like the album very much!
