The Finnish company Jolla was founded by ex-Nokia Africans that the then new Meego OS did not want to die. On the running Jolla Sailfish OS, a more advanced Meego.
I switched from a Nokia Lumia 820 on the Phone Jolla.
What makes Sailfish OS from?
- A real Linux with systemd, Terminal, apt-get etc ..... no half-baked Java superstructure
- No backdoors, no data mining part Jolla
- A very compact kernel without major modifications

See in the pictures of rather plain, is real but really chic => very unusual, Nordic design (reminiscent of Nokia)
With a glued real wood back of Lastu the part is finally the eye-catcher ... will therefore constantly addressed!
Feel:

The front has a metal frame that feels nice and cool, the back (also called "The Other Half" called) made of high quality plastic, similar to the Lumias.
Alone the metal frame makes a lot of, by itself MMN each phone feels equally noble in!
The On / Off button and volume rocker is very noble of metal => and "gunmetal" colored painted.
Technology / Specs:

The hardware is no rip off your feet, but is this rock solid and not very old!
- 4.5 "IPS LCD display: Displays loud but not too unrealistic colors, brightness is good for an LCD, viewing angles are rather narrow (only AMOLED really provide good viewing angles)
Readability in direct Sonneneintrahlung is bad, but this was at my L820 (Amoled!) The case.
Otherwise, the display is fun, the resolution is qHD. Pixels can be seen in very fine fonts = nothing bad.
- CPU Snapdragon 400 1.4GHz .... is however new and come only in 2013 on the market. First is the successor of the S4 Plus, which among other things plugged in Lumia 820, but more controlled commands, better multitasking and consumes less power
- 1 Gig RAM => completely enough, even the WP's rarely more

The reason you buy a Jolla. No American government / company behind it, no built-in backdoor NSA (no Patriot Act!), No data mining part Jolla. The Jolla Apps access from only the most necessary.
The situation is different with Android Apps. They want some continue to scour everything. It says "your eyes open when buying property". The Android VM is not removed after all requests, but it is hard to understand what and what not.

WOW runs the thing. As the Linux server used to not compromise. The more than 25 years matured kernel does the rest. No Layer, no permanent reports to the Google / Apple / MS / RIM server .... here are a battery life of three (3!) Days indoors.
Judder does the phone rarely, at most times during the browser, this is, however, become better. The phone delivers a smoothe Vortstellung. Usual, such as the L820.
Apps launch quickly and run up to 9 Apps same / next to each other on ..... What? What next? Read => Right. The part can true multitasking. As usual, the computer can run multiple open windows, and then play eg Yotube and music at the same time (an extreme example).
This is absolutely transparend and awesome because I know when Navi is running, then it will work on and I can then hinzuschalten eg even the speed camera detector. In WP and his "background tasks" that was always a lottery, then said: "Can run, does not have to".
Open Source ?!

Yes, the phone is open source. However, all the components of the source code is not open. Basically just the UI does not. Thus did "I" no problem. That is still 99% more open than all other competitors. Open Source does not mean that everything has to be free. That would be "Free Software". Sailfish is not Free Software ... who is expected by the industry like I think first do not have a smartphone. However, the UI should also become more open.

This phone is for lovers. Lover of little things and details. It is meticulously crafted and offers great bags / cases (real wood) to.
And it's definitely for people who are actively dealing with the issue of data protection and the question: "What these devices do with us ?!". Who has not tired of the eternal and exaggerated Data Mining => Jolla (or even the Black Phone)
