- For example, the high resolution is not supported by all software products, especially, there are currently (late 2008) no fully supported navigation software..
- - The pre-installed Google Maps Mobile works great
- - - With a minimum of effort runs Navigon 7 - even in landscape mode.
- The biggest "problem" of this small computer is the playful Shell TouchFlow, but can be disabled (it is just a "normal" WM 6.1 PDA phone).
- - Windows Mobile runs extremely well, especially if you really finishes and applications, and can not continue to run as background tasks..
- - - I can only recommend replacing shell TouchFlow by the SPB mobile. Which is not quite as elegant, but more efficient, faster, thoughtful, in fact extensive and stable. Operation only with your fingers is even easier, a few features are priceless (like turning the screen even where it HTC itself has not provided). This is remarkable, because even TouchFlow developed by SPB.
- The GPS part is likely the best are what you can currently buy so. The thing is also in environments where other GPS systems give sufficient satellites, and is astonishingly accurate.
- Supplied with a 8GB MicroSD card is there. Of course, the Touch HD can also be used without Active Sync only as a mass storage, so to speak as an external 8GB hard drive.
- With suitable add-on software, the device can so startling things such as a wireless access point on UMTS / HSDPA routes, ie multiple notebooks can share the broadband connection of your phone via Wi-Fi (SW is WMWifiRouter) and are also by (with NAT!) NAT a little protected.
Even after intensive work with the Touch HD, I can say only two negligible per se points than disadvantages:
- The loud / soft rocker is placed way too big and unhappy - this one uses it quite often unintentionally.
- The camera is a bad joke (like all I know HTC phones).
- Some of the problems described here are solvable, bypassed, or be remedied by a patch already available from HTC (Freezing).
Overall, the device is probably present "state of the art". But that also means that you should deal intensively with the device in order to exploit the opportunities and really enjoy it.
There is definitely nothing for customers who want to have it only on the basis of the successful design and TouchFlow surface.
Mentally it's better than because to understand micro-notebook as a phone.
The real potential can in my opinion (despite ample standard equipment, such as Adobe Acrobat Reader, photo album, audio enhancement, integrated radio, Google Maps, Java, JETCET Print, MP3 cutting tool, Opera and MS browser, Quick GPS as support for GPS, Remote Desktop, RSS Hub, Voice Recorder, Voice, streaming media client, WorldCard Business card scanner and ZIP support) exploit only with other additional software.
A suitable broadband tariff is to be understood.
My recommendations:
- Navigon MobileNavigator 7 (with patches from the Web)
- SPB Backup (and regular backups)
- Spb Phone Suite (basics for the "Today" screen)
- SPB Mobile Shell (instead TouchFlow)
- WMWifiRouter if necessary
- Opera browser update
Apply patch from HTC -
- Ev Resco File Explorer with Registry Editor.
-. Ev HD Tweak (a program for "fine tuning" specially designed for the Touch HD, also covers some undocumented functions)
(All of course at your own risk!)
