The story of the burned-out cop who lives like a callous Zombie in the past and looks for the murderer of his family, is certainly not new, but here it is visually absolutely captivating, action and congested presented.
Wahlberg as Payne (who plays really great) is supported by the eye candy Mila Kunis as killer and the all too rare in major motion pictures emerging Beau Bridges as a fatherly friend, the look of the film is the "Game Noir" template absolutely just (a mixture from film noir in color, unusual camera angles and different color filter techniques, which gives the film a look that could be locally described as "Sin City" in Real) - and "bullet-time" -Friends also come at their expense - even if only once, but then really!
A very large proportion of the extraordinary impact of the film has the grandiose score by Marco Beltrami ("Scream") and Buck Sanders!
Their music is the perfect reflection of the world in which Payne lives: cold, hard, uncomfortable.
But throughout melodic (at times beautiful melodies), sometimes impulsive or even melancholy, played with a large orchestra including synth Ensemble - in my opinion an absolute feast for the ears!
My on-reviewer "Simon Kraus - Film & Soundtrack Fan" is very detalliert received on the tracks - a very good detail, please view.
In the booklet describe Sanders and Beltrami, what methods they used to be the visual justice, for example, to let a piano down five times agree fully to achieve the right sound or special microphone positions during the recording of the orchestra - very interesting!
And the effort has paid off completely, I would say!
Who loves big symphonic scores, should ask his listeners to "Hab-eight" here!
The only possible verdict: An absolute recommendation !!!!
