The unit was purchased without consciously WIN8 and should serve as a workstation for PLC programming and 3D CAD.
WIN8 comes for me not in question, I finally wants to work with!
An installation of Win7x64 with all drivers from the Lenovo Web site took a whole day and irritated until I was finally found out what hardware ultimately installed. It probably diverse WLAN / LAN / BT chips were installed in this series!
A search for the hardware ID`s brought certainty and then ran with the correct driver anything.
Unusual is the entry into the sparse Bios on the recovery button. Here must be switched from on UEFI legacy.
The SSHD is divided into two partitions (system 225GB and 225GB Recovery).
Attention to the "one-key recovery"! Here the Rec partition is simply copied over the Syspart. So who has no real recovery of its installed system, then stands there with a drüberkopiertem Freedos.
The 8GB SSD is not visible for the OS. During the installation WIN7 recovery partition could not be deleted, but then completed a openSUSE13.1 with ease and was installed within 40minutes pleasing and fully furnished.
Note for Linux users WIN +: Only WIN7 and install the service pack before Linux Depends, otherwise WIN refuses to install the service pack and you have everything individually update.
Already at the first use I noticed that the whole keyboard flexes very easily. Keys have a good tactile feedback, but the assignment of function keys I have to get used to first. By default modifier keys are activated and are pressed for F1 in general help (F1) must Fn +. The large touchpad responds accurately, a scrolling works only with two fingers.
Housing and hinges are stable. The glossy display is crisp and has a wide viewing angle.
Enough connections for the suburbs (LAN, VGA, HDMI, USB2 / 3 ...) are available. The one negative was the case labbrige DVD drawer (with an eject button that you always have to look for) and the card reader without ejecting mechanism. An SD card looks halfway out yet. The card should always refer to front transport, otherwise they will probably cancel.
Power has the Z710 for the imaginary tasks plentiful. It remains surprisingly cool and quiet! The fan can be heard hardly even at full load.
The housing can be with only 3 !!! Open screws to come ect to the hard disk space. Unfortunately, I realized that there was no room for second plate or mSATA SSD since.
In conclusion, a good device at a push for a great price.
