Asus UX31E-RY008V 33.8 cm (13.3 inches) Ultrabook (Intel Core i5 2557M, 1.7GHz, 4GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Intel HD 3000, Win 7 HP)
The design is a real looker, very classy. Reactions of bystanders is also "Wow" - even from people not normally interested in such a thing.
Unpacking and commissioning was all extremely easily. Packaging is relatively high, it is also a laptop bag included that leaves a good sophisticated look.
Had but then a little later the problem is that the Fn-key functions were no longer available, eg for adjusting the volume. Reinstall the ATK driver solved this problem quickly.
Turn on Face Logon worried then that the camera was no longer for Skype available. Even turning off Face Logon did not solve the problem. So uninstall the driver of the camera and re-installed and then ran all.
Since I had read many bad feedback before I bought the laptop, I would first like to go into it:
Touchpad
--------
During commissioning, an update of the driver is performed. My touchpad running smoothly, I am even amazed at how well it works. Previously had a Medion laptop and now I have a much better feeling touchpad. Gesture control with multiple fingers also works smoothly.
When working with keyboard and touchpad eg PowerPoint touchpad to operate the keyboard appears to be very briefly deactivated so that it always takes a moment until it becomes responsive.
Keyboard
--------
Looks great and feels great. However, it is quite true that you have to apply a little more force in the attack, as with conventional keyboards. For me, however, not an issue, even though the margin of error when writing is already higher than normal.
Display
-------
Had vertical stripes on the display views on an exhibit and in reviews or read about it. Is when my device but not an issue.
The display reflects relatively strong, but I am used to it and find it now even in some ways appealing. The brightness of the display is so good that it can withstand the elements, each mirroring easy. I use the display continuously on the really lowest brightness level.
Wireless
--------
True, the display of Wireless shows about 1-2 bar less than at my previous laptop. Am, however, only so far been in office environments go, where the coverage was more than adequate.
Face Logon
----------
A great gimmick if it works. Ensures at bystanders before a loud "Wow, how cool is that!". Worked with me from the beginning very well, but it seems to be better, the more pictures it has collected.
The only drawback, which really bothers me: If I control also locks the laptop via the camera is used, the camera of this application and exclusively represents, for example Skype is no longer available.
Battery
--------
Just display me 5:58 remaining term, although I have heard as music already 1.5 hours without connection to the mains. I'm not a Benchmarker, the matters, every minute and when I'm out without mains supply, then the laptop also has a lot of idle, for example, in meetings. So come easily on battery life about 6 or 7 hours. This gives me already a lot of freedom.
Start-up
--------
As I said, I'm not a Benchmarker, which it every second counts. It is striking just how super-fast Windows 7 is launched. When I used to just groaned when a restart was necessary, as this is now really fast and hardly bothers.
Sound
-----
Not that important to me. Would say it sounds good, but is not comparable to the sound through high-quality headphones, which I prefer often.
Bluetooth
---------
Easy connection to all previously tried out devices possible (mobile phone, headset, mouse).
A MacBook Air was before buying the major competitor, now I am very happy with my decision for the Asus UX31. Even though I am convinced that Apple provides a good solid and proven product.
