Lord of the Rings, Book 1: The Brotherhood of the Ring (Paperback)

Customer Review

For me, this translation is to become the Lord of the Rings reference translation. What is striking compared to the first translation, more than the differences in names, it is the flow of play, resulting from a focus on the language and melody of words, an attention which erases all the hard side difficultueux sometimes winded the first translation. For example, I (re) discovered the work on the levels of language, absent from the first translation, a whole work of dialogue that I never imagined in Tolkien, and generally great care given to the harmony of sentence, which does wonders in descriptions and more contemplative passages, where we sometimes approach poetry in prose. All this gives a much warmer book than I remembered, more air and more modern novel, more poetic, intimate and sometimes funnier than that suggested the first translation.
It really is a great opportunity to get back into Tolkien's text.

PS: Only flat, a fairly high number of shells (that surely will decline in the second edition)
