The build quality is very good. The device is sleek in your hand and is easy to operate with one hand. The device is (for me) thin enough to wear it in the back pocket and disrupts not especially when you come back to Desire in your pocket on a chair. Back and the glass front are not sensitive. The first 2 weeks I had a slide on the screen, but this was removed because I did not manage to apply this without trapped dust or small blisters. In the so far 5 1/2 Monten without protection (neither was there a vein Bumper Leather Case) I did it in spite of intensive use, the first two falls (on tiles and parquet) and a departure into the grain on the beach not managed to inflict the unit scratches.
The device is very fast and works flawlessly, crashes I had until now never. Android 2.2. was definitely a significant improvement in the functional and the device also again was a bit faster after the update and I had the feeling that has the already fast touch display another eating better addressed.
The OLED display is very rich in contrast and provides brilliant colors, in direct sunlight, it has (like all active displays) not one of his great moments, but you can still recognize the most important.
The decisive selling point for me personally that is to have fast Android devices like the Desire first smartphones with which one "full value" can surf the Internet (and NO, the iPhone is because of the lack of Flash support, by about 20% of the web pages not can completely or not at all appear, no such device). Here the Desire my expectations fully met. Whether Internet research, online banking or even web space management, everything not an issue.
The battery could last a little longer. With WLAN enabled and automatic synchronization of applications and data over the network every hour is the battery life of between 3 days (pure stand and a few short phone calls) over about 24 (some Tele Fonte, a little Internet) up to about 4-5 hours when the piece surfs the Internet. In my usage profile of the battery lasts 1-2 days usually. I would have liked a bit more but it's just not acceptable.
The only real weakness (against my old Nokia 6230i) which has struck me so far, that's the call quality is poor / more distorted in very low power (choppy or choked words). As has at the same places with very weak signal the 6230i more rausgeholt voice quality. In medium or good wireless coverage, voice quality is however better than with all other devices for which I have a comparison. The "problem" so it is more likely that the antenna is not so well with low reception strengths. Here it is really about, however, to receive such miserable encountered him only in truly rural areas, which is why also no penalty is worth for me.
All in all I am very satisfied and would recommend the Desire each seeking a powerful and good smartphone.
A little tip: At first I had wondered why I had nowhere UMTS reception. A telephone inquiry at the free telephone hotline from HTC (My verdict: Competent, friendly and no waiting - rang only 3 times) has debunked the SIM card as evildoers. Older cards do not support the standard and must then only be replaced by the mobile operators through a current copy.
