I had read and loved his trilogy "The bond of blood" and so I was looking forward to reading the new novel by Lola T: "The secrets of Charmont." Caution, do not expect to read a similar story to that of Blood Bond! We change of scenery and ambience as we dive in France in the 19th century. But what I liked is that despite this, I fully recovered and enjoyed the feather Lola T with its share of intrigue, passion, twists and twists! Mathilde has lost not only her husband but also his fortune and his mansion that her husband had gambled before dying. This mansion now belongs to the charismatic Duke of Saint-Cyr who generously offered him (but not without interest ...) to stay living at the mansion while she finds a place to stay. Situated in an extremely precarious situation, she agrees and sets out to reclaim his mansion and his rank by seducing the Duke. But Preston St. Cyr is much more enigmatic and cunning she had imagined! Why has he acquired the manor? What secret contained in this mansion for so intriguing Preston? Will Do not get caught at his own game of seduction? I'll get rid of small problem before actually starting my opinion: there is a lot of spelling errors, punctuation and other shells that sometimes interfere with reading because there was a concern regarding the correction of this novel but Print I understand that in future reprints, this will be fixed. I loved this story! First of all, I loved the characters and Mathilde Preston because they are not perfect but terribly passionate! Mathilde is pushy, proud and stubborn but also has a big heart and a lot of hidden suffering that forced her to forge an armor to survive in a time made for men and where women do not have the right to error. It really touched me and his side "Sassy" I was very amused. Preston knows what he wants and does whatever it takes to get it, even manipulate, threaten or force the hand of others. But under its little cold and manipulative Duke, he also knows how to be sweet, caring and protective. The meeting of these two characters leads to explosive and jubilant exchange. They quarrel, attract, repel, are found ... In short, I loved their sparkling and tempestuous relationship! I was also pleasantly surprised by some female characters which I can unfortunately state the nature because it will spoil the suspense, but which I liked very much and highly intrigued to share their originality and mystery. As for the plot, it is extremely well put together and she weaves gradually. The items are set up like a chessboard until the masks fall and pawns inexorably fall one after the other. Lola T again wrote an exciting story: a quest, a "crossroads" where the fate of some characters cross or recross for some mysterious reason we only includes the end of the novel. A bit like when finished a huge jigsaw puzzle! The author manages to surprise us, touch us, to scare us too! But I know she likes to make us tremble! She carried me in this new world she describes with great precision and talent. Lola T has proved it can renew and change register with flying colors!
