As expected and seen here in the photos of the review of "UBK" actually tried to prevent by an electronic inhibit the use of third-party batteries or at least limit in the function Canon. But similar even when printer cartridges has now succeeded third party to decrypt the respective chips and recreate. The first reviews are so far very positive and confirm the proper functioning.
Well Canon have no alternative left but to reduce the cost of their usury batteries - or to sit on it.

Of course, I do not rate the battery itself with just one star, but solely the insolence to demand 70-80! Even with "GoPro" (leader in Action cameras, with overpriced accessories) does a very similar original battery "only" 20, third-party less than 10 degrees.
The PowerShot G7x has already extremely poor battery life - actually Canon should mitliefern a second battery to compensate for this deficiency as equal. Instead, Canon tries from this deficiency but even to make a profit, and in really blatant extent! On a forum I had even read that have probably developed a "lock" that makes use of non-rechargeable batteries impossible !? If that's true Canon makes itself so naturally a lot of friends. At my request I received from a Canon support staff only the answer, subject him regarding any information. A "lock" for the use of third-party batteries before.
But looking times on Google for "canon FAQ ID 8202173600" (direct links deletes Amazon experience has shown), there writes Canon at least: "The message [Battery Communication Error] (Battery communication error) is displayed if another manufacturer's battery as Canon is used and a user response is required. " > Whether this means that the use of alien battery is impossible or only an indication must be confirmed, it is not apparent. But it is clear in this way that in each case, an examination of the batteries takes place in the camera. And since there is still no corresponding battery from other manufacturers until today, probably the use is actually actively prevented. One can only hope that it similar to printer cartridges is a chip (and then recreated) can be quickly "cracked".
I can only advise everyone to steer clear of this product and a written complaint at Canon, as long as the price is not to a reasonable level (a maximum of 20-30!) Is lowered. Although we have no union clients in the back, but can make other way to such abuses attention and compel those responsible to take action.
