I was very pleasantly surprised by the excellent quality of this product because its photo presentation leave hastily assume that this would be a product made from a black plastic, enjoying a relative quality - yet this ball, heavy, robust and compact, has an integrally molded body of solid aluminum! ...
In addition, various castings drawing its structure are precise and this allows "clipped" without suffering any mechanical play, lateral and longitudinal, the spigot is itself provides with the ball.
Moreover, the various components of the claw themselves are fully designed of metal, which suggests robustness of shoe fixing jaw flash and reliability during its use as a flash is a very delicate tool which rarely supports a direct fall out of scope tiled or concreted !!
* Concerning the spigot 1/4 "female 3/8" which comes with the ball:
This is the first time I touch a spigot of such a level of build quality as its body itself is integrally molded and machined (a priori) aluminum (and this changes we made some spigots whose toc structure deforms and crumbles when shamefully serves may very with hardware;))
* Concerning the use of the upper pivot ball system - I would like to specify that particular point because it seems to me that at least one user Amazon (in this case the user Alain) did not understand the manipulation mechanical pivot system of the upper part of this head ^^:
This head has a flash horizontal pivot system to enable direct the "hot spot" of the light spot on the wing of the umbrella and in my case, I bought this ball for use primarily with white translucent umbrellas and take advantage of the ability to laterally positioning the spot on the wing to reduce the uniformity of light scattering in order to modulate the amount of light that affects the part of the face lying opposite the umbrella.
In short, this horizontal pivot locking system uses a process "double screwing" involving a very large nuts with screwing / unscrewing adjusts the blocking and therefore, the desired horizontal angle of the claw.
Finally, if you do not use a large light box to make your portraits then this ball will be very significant - if not, the ball Godox / Andoer type "S" [ASIN: B00LLWZTP2] may be d an infinitely more practical and relevant use for you!
It remains for me to use this product regularly to really assess its durability and, where appropriate, the reliability of this product proves disappointing after several months of use so I reserve the right to change some contents of this comment! ^^
