1) General information
a) The unit was purchased by me in late January 2012 for just under 800.
b) From the built-in triple tuner (DVB-T / C / S) I use only DVB-S
c) Usage: TV via DVB-S, Bluray movies. No game console, Apps secondary - but I have laptop, Android Phone & Co
d) seat pitch for wall-mounted unit: about 3.5 meters
2) Identical characteristics:
Identical panels can be found in PA5500, PA6500 and PA660S.
Price differences are minor in these 3 models. PA5500 and PA6500 are about 50, - Euro more expensive than the PA660S. (As of 31.01.2013)
Below I have the further I know differences summarized: (s)
PA660S: 2 x HDMI, DVB-S, SmartTV, HDMI-ARC
PA6500: 3 x HDMI
PA5500: 2 x HDMI
3) Image quality: (assessment refers to the input material DVB-S and Bluray disc.
SD: Good picture with me at about 3.5m distance from the unit.
HD: Very clear, razor-sharp, highly detailed and true-color image.
BD: My first movie on Blu-ray Disc was Prometheus, impressive sharply drawn image, which looked almost plastic to me. Even fast or dunke scenes are shown in detail and crystal clear.
Games consoles: from me is not currently used.
PWM noise, or also commonly called image-Krisseln:
Can particularly strong encounter when black parts of the image. Some LG plasma TV users report them. I could not find this phenomenon in my device.
4) Power consumption:
Energy Class B Annual energy consumption 276 kWh
(The basis of daily 4-hour operation of the TV 365 days
Small invoice to:
LED TV (energy class A) annual consumption of 147 kWh
At 25 cents / kWh in LED TV annual savings of 30 Euro, LED TV but also significantly more expensive.
5) firmware update possibility
To me it is important, in the future be able to hold the device to date and be able to adapt to future technical developments.
Therefore it should be checked regularly to see if new software is available (firmware) for the device.

Update options:
a) DTV Channel: via satellite Not tested.
b) LAN / WLAN: LAN: There was a new version (4:01:04) found + installed, duration 25 minutes, easily downloaded new version and automatically updates.

Overview of the installed and the new version, then confirm with START, firmware update begins, TV boot after newly finished, took me 6 minutes.
6) Channel Sorting:
Here one must first know that the LG program places reserved 1-100.
ie In the initial setup, the programs first start at number 101
I have about 15 minutes needed to relocate my 30 favorite stations to the places 1-30 of the approximately 2,000 satellite stations. It works like this:
1) Settings Settings. Programme Edit
2) From the appearing sides (at 60 sites) the first station that you want to set in the future, for example, to program number 1 as follows me:
a) request transmitter with OK Mark (hook is set)
b) Press the yellow button (in the small window, the desired program number 1 type)

d) For all other stations proceed exactly as described under 2).
Info1: It can always be moved at the same time only one transmitter.
Info2: If you take too much time, the TV switches back to the current program and it has to start at 1) again
7) Support and Service:
According to some users of the LG Support still need for improvement in communication and competence seems to have, especially when questions about firmware it probably lacks coordination between the parent company in South Korea and Germany representative.
My experience: An Incident (. Regarding Software Update) through the contact form on the LG side was competently answered the next day to my complete satisfaction.
Meanwhile, firmware updates, see for download on a USB stick on the LG website. Firmware update is then considerably faster than via web.
8) Sound Quality
The sound quality is limited due to design, treble and midrange are rated an average area to good, therefore it lacks the depth (bass)
Remedy: Bass 100% pure and clear voice switch, max. Level 3
Abhilfe2: Connection via AVR or ext. Amplifier recommended with speakers.
Humming some users report a more or less loud whirring in the immediate vicinity of the device. This is usually caused by the built-in power supply through other lines, which are close to the power cord of the TV.
Remedy: The enclosed ferrite cores (With me 6 different types of nuclei were in, 2 x black at each ends of the power cable, 1 x black in the middle of the Component (RCA) cable, 3 x gray is described in the manual of the Ethernet cable. plugged)
9) USB
Lt. Description will be recognized and rendered the following formats:
JPEG photos, DAT, MPG, MPEG, VOB, AVI, DivX, MP4, MKV, TS, TRP, TP, ASF, WMF, FLV.
Most (most common) formats have been tested by me and play without a problem.
External NTFS formatted disks are easily recognized.

Pale colors. Remedy: Switch the Eco mode!
Mirrors of the screen:
Yes, it reflects due to design, for us is not a disadvantage, because we usually only in the evening after dark turn on the TV, otherwise we go just down the blinds.
Remedy: Darken the room during the day, evening switched wall lamps before (possibly in addition to) avoid the TV.
Afterglow:
It is reported that it occasionally to come in the first few minutes, for example, note-texts of the main menu yet "afterglow" After a few minutes of this design-related effect disappears completely.

Delivery & Unpacking:
The equipment was transported by two good-humored staff of forwarding by telephone notice to the living room, unpacked there, and even checked in the presence of the forwarder for damage.

The perfect companion!

In addition, the LG giant everything that is trendy at the moment, as there apps HBBTV, Open Browser, USB recording would be much more
After 2 months now cinema experience with the giant TV is the verdict is clear:
Absolute, absolute buy recommendation, excellent value for money, full marks.
Very high quality DVB-S tuner, which I use exclusively.
The above under "disadvantages?" listed points do not lead me to a devaluation of the total score.
Only for fiddling with the remote control in the dark unlit I subtract 0.1 stars.
With other components such as AVR, BD player and 5.1 speaker set the home theater experience is perfect!
