I write this review with two keyboards side by side - almost in a direct comparison.
Pro K800:
+ Relatively quiet keystroke
+ Unifying receiver, which can be connected to other compatible devices from Logitech, thus keeping more USB ports free.
+ Wirelessly. There is the option to use the cable even when using the keyboard for loading
+ No interference when writing. Likewise, no faults in combination with other sparking / wireless devices
+ Charge status indicator (is activated by pressing FN + F7)
+ On / Off switch
+ Extremely bright illumination of the buttons. There are thereby all keys - except for the spacebar - illuminated.
+ Fairly extensive settings on the Set-Point Driver.
+ High-quality impression (meaning not the optics)
+ Option to manual detection with respect to the lighting (although I enormously useless find this feature). There is the alternative to activate lights only when the stop and let go off after a settable seconds of non-use.
+ Usual high Logitech quality
Negatives:
- To the described 10 days useful life no one should stop. Unless you do not use the lights in which case you would be here but on the side of wrong. If you use the keyboard for a few hours a day in the fullest light level, the keyboard must be loaded after 3 days. But this is not a problem as this can really recharge in 3 hours - if necessary even in parallel with the use.
- The setting up of the keyboard is a joke! Comparable to a vertically upright piece DINA4 paper, the keyboard would fall just as quickly to the ground, you would against.
- The shape of Tatstatur, so the slightly beveled design. This extends obliquely upwards and will probably make it easier to write. Subjectively, this represents a failure out because me personally, it annoys more. Is the K800 at the bottom have the same height as its predecessor, the shape rises to twice the height at the upper end. The keyboard thus acts not only weichgelutschter, but also noticeably thicker than the wired version
- The brightness levels start over again at at 1. The K800 is also through the driver will not be able to store luminance settings. Thus, the desired brightness of 2-4 with each restart must be readjusted - very annoying!
- No indication for activation / deactivation "Num" and "roles" (Caps Lock is shown on an inappropriate green Iode on the button)
Compared to wired Illuminated (from the perspective of K800):
- Visually far inferior to watch as the wired Illuminated (!). The keys are each more rounded at the edges, resulting in a "weichgelutschten" conveys no "noble" impression. Moreover, the keyboard is about at its corners, which reinforces the impression abgelutschten.
- Very negative for me to evaluate the - again - full-size "Remove" button. The predecessor twice as large land familiar Illuminated users ever on the useless "Insert" button
+ Palm rest about 1cm shorter
+ Wireless (really a huge advantage !!)
+ Each key illuminated
+ Noticeably stronger luminosity, the additional brightness level. This makes writing in a dark closet already downright for minimal glare - quite positive!
+ - Color Same design
+ - Flat keys
+ - Same writing noise
+ - Similar functionality in the driver, with additional button for system functions of "PC lock" to "Shutdown"
+ - Additional function on hand recognition arises in practice is as useless
+ - Bottom row is not easily applicable. Does not work in practice.
It should be noted that the key "computer" no modifier key (see previous review). This was already in the original Illuminated, the assignment was changed only with the brightness setting.
The keyboard can also be connected to a USB connector + - are charged combination, as is the case with HTC phones (at least on my HD2).
Conclusion:
High confirms the new K800, the Illuminated, but plays optically almost in a different league - while still in high. If, on the noble impression, you can not get on the wired version. Bothers you at the cable does not (can be necessary even extend), as the older version is recommended with cables, as the new functions (hand detection, Unifying receiver, stronger luminosity) in the end marginal to not really make sense (hand detection) are !
So it is a truly outstanding keyboard that represent their points criticized criticism on a high level, which must at all into perspective for themselves (such as the optics). Anyone who can see over cable position and already owns the predecessor, I recommend to stay in this.
People who can not stand cable (like me), simply have to resort to this keyboard! For although the "defects" of this writing instrument, makes the wireless function in conjunction with the benefits of the old (fast writing by flat keys, fine lighting, design, quality) any competition to naught!
However, I personally had to consider whether I "new" or to keep "old" the. The benefits that come with the wireless, but ultimately wipe away all doubt. As a result, the K800 will replace my wired Illuminated future.
- 5 stars for the keyboard itself
- 4 stars compared to the wired version (Verschlimmbesserungen)
