This review is for all "American Recordings" by Johnny Cash and Rick Rubin.
So far, six plates have appeared.
What can I say?
Masterpieces, each recording.
This has nothing to do with Country. A voice, a guitar, sometimes a piano, or a piano.
Reduced to the bare essentials: the song. Sometimes so intense and fragile that you want to burst into tears.
Or so powerful that you get goosebumps.
Johnny Cash was a Story-Teller.
And there are always stories from the life. About the geek, the downtrodden, the outcasts.
And the love of God, Jesus Christ and of all men, even if they are never free of errors.
It's all been said already, what makes the albums.
So only a personal statement:
This is the best music I've heard in my life.
In my players anything else goes; only the "American Recordings".
Music for eternity.
