For about 10 years I had the scanner Canon Lide 30 under Win XP in use. There is no chance to bring the device under Win 7 running. A new scanner was needed. In retrospect'm really happy to have switched to the new model and do not want to work with the old scanner.
Here are some insights that I do not want to mention:
1. Driver program SCAN GEAR (for Windows 7) for Lide 120:
************************************************** *****
This program must be installed on each case, although this is not evident at first glance. The installation runs smoothly and lasts for 4-5 minutes. However, the installed program does not mean ScanGear, as one might expect, but 'IJ scan utility'. The scanner is then used straight away. No update is required (as of February 2015). Functions of the software are self-explanatory. Class!
The other two programs from the installation CD 'MY IMAGE GARDEN' and 'quick menu' I uninstalled. These have turned out to be garbage.
2. Scan with Lide 120:
********************
a) scan quality and speed:
The new Lide 120 is much faster and provides better picture quality. The Scannegeschwindigkei is completely sufficient for household use. Scanning an A4 page color takes max.16 sec. In addition there are a further 10 sec. For the return of the scanner.
Less suitable for scanning books, because the depth of field is approximately 1 mm.
b) The Scan Noise: hardly disturbing. Much quieter than my old scanner.
c) Interesting features:
- Scanning multi-page documents in PDF I find handy. The pages are automatically numbered and stacked so that only one file is saved. Great!
- The JOIN function:
An A3 large area is scanned in steps 2 and combined software. Auxiliary kingdom, when z. B. wants to scan a large journal.
d) Handling:
The scanner is compact and easy to store. Powered by USB cable and thus no cable clutter.
Conclusion to Lide 120:
===========
Quickly and quietly. Good scan quality. Driver ScanGear under Win7 properly. Complete satisfaction except when scanning books. Good value for money. In my estimation, there is no need for the more expensive model Lide 220 access.
