I have long hesitated with this review, because it personally rather hard for me to find the right words for the HD 598 from Sennheiser. The headset comes in a not particularly environmentally friendly plastic packaging, the accessory is rather meager. Besides the handset is still an adapter from 6.3 to 3.5 mm jack and thereby a warranty booklet. (Personally, I would have a 3.5 mm connector with a 6.3mm adapter prefer). Sorry, no protective case, not even a bag. The design is a matter of taste, in this case, either love or hate. For me what is love at first sight. The straps are made of high quality plastic, the ear pads are made of soft (and extremely comfortable) velor, the head cushion made of leather. Overall very high quality workmanship (although "Made in China"). The ear cushions provide enough space even for very large ears. Thanks to the burl wood elements of the handset looks even more noble. But what about the sound? The first few seconds I was speechless when I heard what I heard. Namely lots of details that were previously hidden from me completely. Such a high resolution I did not expect and the stereo stage is the widest I've ever heard. The EAR technology is not just a marketing promise, but has an impressive effect. You can hear a true surround. In direct comparison to Beyerdynamic DT 990 Sennheiser has something little bass, but it offers more kick bass. The Sennheiser offers a more exciting sound, yet remains analytically. They want to hear a track at a time. The Beyerdynamic still analytical and has a somewhat more comfortable fit, and we are moving here in both models in the top class with respect to the seating comfort. Both models are very suitable for eyeglass wearers. I hardly feel the temple when I put this handset. Sennheiser manages with the HD 598 as if by magic slight height emphasis and hours of fatigue-free listening originals to combine a real feat. The vote is rather warm and I could hear a slight bath effect. Exactly my case. The Sennheiser provides very good value for money and provides the useful limit is in operation without a headphone amplifier. However, a KHV such as the Fiio E10 gets even more out of this handset at all here is a reasonable source requirement. Feed it this handset with miserable compressed MP3s, it will sound as miserable, because beautiful play is nothing here. On the other hand high-quality recordings with an incredibly detailed playback will be rewarded. The Sennheiser is appropriate as opposed to Beyerdynamic for a very wide range of applications. Just about all styles of music sound good, for Keyboard Monitoring the listener is just as well suited as look for films. Last something to cable noise: There are none. The removable 3m cable transmits no noise. Top! Who so the headphones is useful for? Its ideal application is for quiet environments where the data transmitted to the outside noises do not disturb others. The open design of the sound penetrates both to hold and externally, it should be borne in mind. I see this handset in domestic environments for music and movies enjoy, but also to make music. Bass heads should definitely resort to another model, with a closed construction. If you like an honest sound, and from time to time also looks at films, makes nothing wrong with this model.
