Very well equipped in appendices USB ports (1AV + 2AR) that connects external drives additives, USB key or to share printers on the network.
One of the advantages of these "local" ports is to perform any transfer, copy, backup, using the NAS processor.
What all discharge the processor PC, the various bus and network. (Backups can be very long, especially after verification of data transfer - which I highly recommend - When we see that our valuable data has been copied to bad sectors, or incorrectly, it is often too late ... ).
Remember that a NAS runs Linux in general, and that the data will be a kind XFS directory. Windows Live unreadable (or hard). Make regular backups on any external disk to NTFS [associated with a rear USB port of the NAS) to allow recovery of all data if the NAS drive should fail.
I paid a lot to know that in matters of Backup, only applies redundancy backup media, rigorous, methodical, and under rather directly accessible formats (Windows).
Consider the NAS as a tool of "distribution" of data on your network, NOT as a backup, if not temporary.
To you to appreciate this friendly tool that is a powerful NAS.
