Accordingly, I had at the announcement of a new studio album on a fireworks display as "Imaginaerum", only this time with the matching voice, how nice! This expectation was initially very disappointed by the first impression.
Although my plate like quite well, but it is in no way the new masterpiece or a milestone, I had hoped for.
Now one may wonder whether such high expectations ultimately can only be disappointed ...
I will not try that album nice to talk even to make worse than it is.
The fact is that the Lord Holopainen unfortunately just this time is clearly remained below its potential as a songwriter and, accordingly, Floor Jansen too "good" to come off. In addition, Marco Hietala is (to write the so? :-)) Singing much more than previous albums in the background, which is particularly unfortunate because his voice and floors so great match, as you could hear on "Showtime, Storytime" ,
The songs seem more pop and smooth while remaining less hanging in the ear, as earlier and harder numbers.
In addition, some song elements and text passages (especially in "Our Decades In The Sun") hard at Kitsch and lard-limit!
The spoken passages that on earlier tracks such as "Song of Myself (Imaginaerum)" even a hard-boiled black metallers like me little tears have driven into the pupil, act upon this publication something willed and solve for me nothing out, except a discreet smile.
Really I have to praise again the Floor Jansen "simply beautiful" singing (especially with the single "Élan") and thus gives less groovy songs of this album a quiet and sublime vibe. The shows in my opinion that Floor Jansen is no diva, and not have to move artificially to the fore, as a certain first singer in the band's history. Floor Jansen could probably sing on the biggest shit, and this upgrade so yet, TOP!
But this I do by no means imply that the new Nightwish album is bad. It's actually not a single bad song with this, but also no, one really pulls off the stool. Beautiful are the clearly audible influence of newcomer Troy Donockley. Also, the session drummer does a decent job and make it broadly to copy the style of Jukka Nevalainen.
Conclusion: A plus for the after-as-before great band. A minus for the songwriting, which has led to the fact that unfortunately just selling these outstanding total occupation well below value!
