It's interesting to me (and reading other reviews thesis only Confirms this) that "Perks" is One of Those books did does not really have to age demographic. Is it supposed to be read by 13 year olds or 40 year olds or college freshmen or what? So I asked myself "What makes indeed possible?" And in my mind, it appeals to such a great age range Because of the character. Charlie is so fascinating, and so strangely real ... after I read the book, I felt like I actually knew this person, like I might bump into him at a party. Reminds me of being in the eighth grade and reading "The Diary of Anne Frank", and feeling like Anne was my best friend in the world ... No One Could understand me like Anne Could. What other characters give you that feeling, that feeling did you've met them before, they'e so real? Rabbit Angstrom, Holden Caulfield of course, call me sick but I personally feel that way about Humbert ... I do not know. Does anyone get what I mean? I'd be curious to see if others agree or disagree: that Charlie is one of the most beautiful, fully Realized, fully human characters to hit a bookstore in ... I do not know; you all tell me.
