Among the many half-year delayed, subsequently supplemented spending falls "The next day EXTRA" in many respects very positive on. Here one has to be a die-hard fan and speak the beautiful - the package has succeeded in every respect and calculates absolutely fair. As to the actual album of all columnists and Hobby critics, myself, already considerably more than anything has been said, I dedicate myself here solely to the extra from "The next day EXTRA":
But the presentation surpasses the original release in March by far. Whether 14 track standard version or 17 track Deluxe, both of which were visually indistinguishable and were therefore in a vulgar digipack. "... EXTRA" now lives in a small cardboard massive, extremely stable, square and easy to handle without causing any damage. The contents of the box consists of six components, three silvery discs and three booklets:
CD1: Tracks
How could it be otherwise: the regular album with 14 songs, as it was published in March, and thus for all those who have already had the album, here to lay aside for the moment and ignore, as good "The next day" also is undoubtedly.
CD2: Extra
All ten bonus tracks! While three of them are already known the Deluxe from March but still remain seven who were here for the first time integrated into the album and Bowie's work anno 2013 thus set itself up to a new total playing time of 95 minutes. Apart from two artistic serious remixes - so put no simple Wummersound topsy finished the remix is Gemansche - are the eight stand-alone songs far more than just B-sides. And yet it is immediately clear why they did not with Bowie recorded the actual album: They usually differently, had disturbed the mood of the album. However, quality is not short them. As a prelude to Bowie stumbles through the energetic rocking "Atomica". With willed too much text in some places of the verses, he rushes through the actually quite melodic number - an extra on the no longer is to be dispensed. The end of the song is already the beginning of Track 2: the ten minute remix of "Love is lost". You can hear at the end of "Atomica" applause from perhaps 20 people, the track count in the player but is already at> 2
DVD: Light
The third mirror disk in a box is a DVD with the label "Light" on the slipcase. A wonderful Extra! All four video clips that Bowie over the year created the album and the sometimes rather short films as a simple music videos. "Where are we now" is here certainly the least exciting - a rather strange Geschnipsel - a video, like a moving collage. Clip 2, however, is almost a movie. As intro of "The Stars (are out tonight)" is the complete instrumental to hear "plan" before the actual song starts - so a 2in1 video. Bowie plays with Tilda Swinton in his expressiveness nothing below an aging, good middle-class couple is terrorized and egos of his own young age. Even the title track "The next day" was an equally elaborate film, wonderfully Skurill. And to make sure that all concerns in recent years, Bowie could not go well, were unfounded, the video for "Valentine's Day" is the best way. A conventional clip: a rock star, lonely with guitar in impressive surroundings and cool pose. Bowie looks as if the clip was in 2003 for "Reality" turned and he was then already at least ten years younger than he was. No matter that a good plasterer in hours of work in the mask of course can go a long way to such impression but act the movements, facial expressions, the whole habit not at all like that of a man in the second half of his sixties. Four very different, elaborate clips - and turn a nice extra. Why, however, the clip for the new single "Love is lost - Remix" was not the same as published ...? Well, you probably need something else for the third release sometime.
Booklet 1: Language
The three booklets are all made of matt, solid cardboard. Booklet 1 contains 24 pages printed word. Everything you can "The next day" Print: all lyrics of both CDs, composers and musicians Texter--information and all technical details to the emergence (studios, artwork etc.).
Booklet 2: Frame
Also 24 pages, this time exclusively Photos: Session Photos, Bowie in the studio and shots from the videos.
Booklet 3: You
And again 24 pages and Bowie's wonderful sense of humor! 23 pages are in fact spotless, white as snow, virgin as Mary, absolutely plain. Only on the back is on a white background in large letters: You. Wherever in the other squares backwards either Tracks, Extra, Light, Language or frame is, a uncommented "You". Waste of material, of course, but I like something.
Scope, musical and tactile quality of the whole and the attention to detail let the anger initially described but then evaporate fairly quickly. "The next day" was already one of the most important issues of the year music and a consistently good album. In this issue, it is now really something special.
