But the story of the deep look at the broken soul of the protagonist 'Pink', implemented in this musical form, is truly an artistic masterpiece. One has to deal with the complexity of the work already to grasp the cynical lyrics or the planned down to the smallest detail sound effects. On top of that the work is Floyd-typical course perfectly recorded and mixed with remarkable vitality, so that everyone listening test is a real acoustic experience.
Still, perfect score gets "The Wall" in spite of these laurels of me not. Because every now and then choked the story under the bombast, the Roger Waters ascends. This is particularly evident is in "Waiting for the Worms" or "The Trial" at the end of the work where the music has hardly anything to do with rock, but rather - drifts towards Musical - just hard to bear for me. Also known everyone "Another Brick in the Wall (Part II)" is a completely atypical Floyd Sound, with it, although the band managed even to the disco dance floors, many fans but leaving a little perplexed.
Fortunately, at that time very dominant Waters but still left a little in his work to meddle, and so David Gilmour came about, with his melodic sense to intersperse a few highlights, most notably of course the overriding "Comfortably Numb". Here was particularly clear that Waters and Gilmour is supplemented musically perfect, and that it is a pity that after "The Wall" was over with this fruitful collaboration. Furthermore, I think "Hey You", "Mother", the double track "Empty Spaces" / "Young Lust", "One of my Turns" and especially "Nobody Home" for outstanding songs that work outside of the concept even on its own ,
The bottom line is "The Wall" a tough nut that must be cracked - and for that you need time, understanding of the texts and optimally an outstanding headset. Those who appreciate Pink Floyd more for early works or just "Another Brick ..." knows from the radio, will probably be less happy with "The Wall".
