I myself am a fan decent prog music (mostly underground bands like In Mourning, In Vain or Ne Obliviscaris) and, of course, are there some influences of Opeth heard. Only, Opeth sounds again completely different! Even more extreme is this contrast so to bands like Katatonia (the last Katatonia albums since Viva Emptiness) or Ghost Brigade. Honestly, I hear in the 2 bands hardly Opeth influences, yet always the name Opeth falls where.
The easiest way to read first something about Opeth and then listens to the tape on.
That's how I did it and I listened ann Ghost Reveries. And it's more of a split story for me.
On the one hand has said that musically EVERYTHING is perfect. Ingenious songwriting, good vocals, strong lyrics. But something is missing, namely the passion. The album seems to me just experienced and I lack completely the joy of playing, who especially in Mourning and Ne Obliviscaris on their debut albums (In Mourning also on MONOLITH) shown. The logical conclusion is just that for me (!) To arrive no feelings. The whole flows formally nixsagend past me. And I find that a pity. That would really have been a great album.
