I recommend reading this novel, for the ease with Laquel King attaches us to his characters, for the weary side and the fact that there is no happy ending, it was inconceivable to make a happy ending for this apocalyptic story.
Well, if we needed evidence to say that Stephen King and John Carpenter have a common universe, here are the best example.
Carpenter loves to stage anti-hero.
He loves the open ends.
He loves not politically correct and his films denounce the failings of American society.
King's prowess is to present this story via a single pair of eyes, that of the artist. So who knows what he knows, we see only what he sees. I lived the story as if I saw this adventure through an onboard camera on the shoulder of the character!
And it is an interesting exercise in style. Some will whine saying "Yes but we do not know if we do not know that!" Yes that's what gives this funny feeling while reading the book, which gives him a wry side and therefore a very realistic side.
