A bible of music

Inner Score: jazz, improvised music (Paperback)

Customer Review

Jacques Siron has laid a wonder that contains much information, putting in perspective the evolution of music in general (not just improvised) and referring to other cultures than those of Western music. I well understand why Debussy's music is so particular for the neophyte, and why all jazz greats like Coltrane are important.

I also really enjoyed the presentation and the presence of errata sheets provided. So, I'm going to send him a small list of shells that I found in the text.

A small lack for me: he cites the difficulty of granting a band between fixed tuning instruments like piano and those that can float like winds and strings.
It would have deserved a more detailed presentation. I'll send him the following questions that could be addressed:
- There is agreement at the beginning: equal temperament, or other?
- I play the bassoon with a harpsichord tuned in meantone fashion: how do I know if I am "just"?
- All fluctuates during the song, the chorus a cappella is a typical case: rest-you one with the same agreement, tempered or not?

My final question to the author will concern the tools (computer I guess) with which this wonderful presentation was performed.

Congratulations and thank you!
