These questions that haunt men since the sun was veiled in red (result of the explosion of an asteroid between the sun and Earth), since an eternal winter tightens its claws on civilization in tatters, since a strange plant organism, the Malesève, growing pine forest terrifying, gradually invades the planet, these issues Johan has only done ... the only thing that matters to him is to join his beloved, Leah, to see her one last time before the world sinks into madness and death. For her, he is ready to face anything, cold and terror, pain and all predators. Resulting afterwards his brother and his friends, who also risk their lives to enable them to realize his dream, he embarks on a dangerous journey and with little hope of return ... but if the end of the world is tomorrow , whatever the place where it will take as long as they met ...
For a long time I had not read a novel of this genre, apocalyptic, to be precise. And I confess that I let myself take the game to the terrifying world of these young people remained idealistic despite the cynicism of those around them, their trying and desperate quest ... well, desperate not the term because that is the only thing left to man, to those who still deserve the name (and they are rare), to those who have not switched into barbarism, hatred, blindness and Violence: hope, love, friendship. They suffice to save humanity, to save these children on the threshold of adulthood?
This trip reads avidly, the suspense is great and the need to turn the pages often irresistible. So, of course, I have reservations, I found the style a bit childish sometimes (especially in the description of the female characters), love stories just phoned, some major questions raised by this world a little evaded (genus: but what they eat, whether the land is covered by two meters minimum snow and the sun is not shining for growing plants?), and I also found that it seemed to slide a main topic to another (the pine Malesève, love for Johan Leah, sects and mutant powers, and new species) ... But on the other hand, I can tell you that I had every night a dog hurt to ask my book, and by reading the last 100 pages of the book last night, I cried like a madeleine ...
So I frankly recommend this book for teen readers (which certainly does not have the same stylistic reserves than me) and all those who want to spend a nice time reading (remember not hide his pleasure, sometimes). .. but plan a sweater, it is very cold in this book ...
