The Carnegie Hall Concert (Audio CD)

Customer Review

On his far last piano solo recording Keith Jarrett has this time not a work of art, but their equal fifteen placed finish. The double CD is reminiscent of a mixture of chocolates: each part is technically and musically brilliant, but they could hardly be different. The 1st part is motivlos; 2nd crossed by the Blues; 3rd lyrical harmony; 4th oscillating between extreme tempos; ... Etc The five additions are generally more melodic and accessible than the ten main parts, but emphasize the non-uniformity of the album even more apparent.

The variety of styles reflects almost all facets of Jarrett's work over the past three and a half decades. So reminiscent of the 6th part of very Scala Part 2; 7th lets the style of "Facing You" and "My Song" back to life. While fans of "Radiance" are probably generally well served, this recording is the desire of those who a remake of the great solo concerts of Cologne to "La Scala" expected probably disappoint. These concerts regained their intensity just by their slow build; here it flickers only rarely, as at the end of Part 5, or in the parts 7 and 10. FIG.

The interplay between the pianist and his American audience has a certain magic - especially towards the end of the concert. Like the rustling of paper when handle in the chocolate box, interrupts the enthusiastic applause at the concert - but, unfortunately also the river. He will also zunehmens longer and louder - come during the encores on average 5 minutes of music for about 2 minutes of applause. Friends of the "concert atmosphere" get their money's worth, especially if Jarrett flirts with the audience. For many others, however, this is probably just a nuisance.

On the other hand the length of applause also reflected the cult status of the artist. Because it suspects actually already each after the first stroke: Keith Jarrett could just as well set on the keyboard and it sounds still great.

Die-hard fans of Keith Jarrett not come safely around this recording - all others should first buy the "Köln Concert" or "Vienna Concert".
